Primer is an important step when using makeup, especially when wearing a full face! This blog post will give over what primer is, how to use it, and more! + commonly asked questions about primer!
What is primer?
Primer preps the skin for makeup, and it is applied right before you do your makeup!
What does primer do?
The purpose of primer is to fill up pores, bumpy textures, and small creases to make your face even and easier for makeup to work with. Primer also makes makeup last longer. Think of it as helping your skin with becoming a blank canvas making it easier to apply and wear makeup!
How Do I Use Primer?
It’s quite simple, here are the basic steps to applying primer:
Keep in mind these tips for when your apply primer:
- Always make sure to apply a small, thin layer of primer otherwise you may see pilling on your makeup. Pilling is when your base and moisturizer start to ball up while it’s being applied, resulting in your makeup having splotchy and textured finish.
- Make sure to also always apply moisturizer before applying primer! Why? Because moisturizer will keep your skin moisturized and hydrated that’s what you want when wearing a product like this!
Here’s How To Apply Primer:
- Do all your skincare, primer comes after skincare!
- Grab a small amount of primer and gently blend it into your skin, avoiding the eye area unless you’re using eye primer.
- Wait 3 minutes, this gives the primer to set on your skin.
- Apply foundation/base!
Which One Do You Use?
I don’t like to wear primer every day but when I do I like to use the Benefit Pore Professional Primer! It’s very soft when you apply it and blurs the skin well.

It depends on the product you buy, but yes primer can be tacky. This is so it lasts all day and sticks to your skin and doesn’t move! If you don’t like the tacky feeling on your skin look for lightweight primers!
