What is foundation?!
What exactly is foundation?! Foundation is a makeup product that provides medium to full coverage on your skin. It’s the first step in your makeup routine and the main purpose is to cover your skin to hide blemishes, fine lines, dark spots, etc.
Foundation can come in powder and cream form but liquid foundation is the most commonly used type! Also, the foundation has different types. If you’re looking for something that’s not full coverage and want a lighter feel check out this guide that goes over each foundation type!
Which one should I use?
I’m always gonna recommend going for a cheap foundation when you’re just starting out! You don’t know if you won’t like it, or use it every day. For beginners, I recommend Maybelline FIT Me Foundation. I use this and it’s so good considering the cheap price! They also have different types according to your skin type and a large variety of skin tones to choose from.
Here is a video I made with the coverage it provides!

How Do I Apply foundation?!
There are two popular ways, and I’d say it’s up to you and what your preferences are, let’s go over what those options are and how to use them!
How to apply foundation using a beauty blender:
Beauty blender: I love using a damp beauty blender to apply foundation! It’s super quick and works well for me. Using a beauty blender also doesn’t leave me with a streaky/splotchy finish either!
- “Make sure your skin is all prepped and grab your makeup sponge, I’ve been loving the Morphe Makeup Sponge! It works really well + great quality.
- Make sure you have clean hands wash your makeup sponge with warm to cool water. You should start to see it expand!
- Then, squeeze all the water out, and make sure there isn’t any left! (It should take under a minute to squeeze all the water out.)
- Next, grab your coverage of choice and start to apply it as you normally would with the damp makeup sponge.
- Finally, you should notice how easy and quick it is to apply your makeup! + you’ll notice how your makeup looks more streak-free and even, giving you a glowing finish.”

How to apply foundation using a makeup brush:
Makeup Brush: Makeup brushes are perfect if you’re on the go! You can stuff them in your makeup bag and easily do touch-ups/apply anywhere too.
- Prep your skin, and apply primer!
- Grab your makeup brush and foundation. Put a bit of the foundation on your brush or skin.
- Apply some foundation onto your forehead, chin, both cheeks, and nose.
- Move your brush in a circular motion around your face till it’s all even looking!
- You can stop here, but I’ve found that since sometimes using a brush makes my makeup look streaky I go over it with a damp beauty blender and that gets rid of the streaky finish/splotches!
- You’re done! Now, you can continue with concealer!
- When you’re done with all of your makeup, lock everything in with loose setting powder.
