What is concealer?!
A great question…what does concealer actually do?! Concealer is a product that helps with brightening certain parts of your face resulting in a bright and rejuvenated finish. Concealer is typically applied on top of foundation to brighten and conceal dark areas/imperfections around your face.
What concealer should I get?
I recommend Maybelline Instant Age Rewind! I’ve been using it for over a year… and love it so much! Works so well, and comes with an applicator too. They have a large variety of shades, and it does stay all day with a mask on!
I am shade 120 and have combo skin!
Here’s where to apply concealer
Remember to use the damp beauty blender to blend everything in for a flawless base!
- Three lines in the middle of your forehead: This is going to illuminate your face.
- The bridge of your nose: This can help with being able to contour your nose.
- Under your eyes: For those looking and wanting to hide dark circles you can do upside-down triangles and this will give you full coverage.
- Around your nose: This can help with hiding redness, I have some around my nose and concealer helps with being able to hide that.
- Chin: This helps with being able to illuminate your face.
- Any blemishes: Concealer is perfect for hiding any blemishes, simply apply a small amount of concealer and pat the concealer onto your skin.
How do I use concealer?!
Now that you know about what concealer does and where to apply it… how do you actually use it? Here’s how:
Once you’ve probably applied your foundation it’s concealer time! Grab your concealer and a damp beauty blender. You may be wondering why a damp beauty blender? It’s going to allow the concealer to easily blend into your skin and it’ll also feel nice on your skin, pretty neat!
I wouldn’t recommend using a brush because I’ve noticed how the makeup doesn’t blend seamlessly and moves around a lot. A beauty blender blends by sitting on top of the foundation, and not mixing with it.
Remember to always pat and not drag when applying concealer.

Commonly asked questions
Is concealer before or after foundation?
Concealer can be both, really depends.
Applying concealer before foundation can work for those who want to cover blemishes and need thick coverage for an even finish.
Applying concealer after foundation is better known and results in an even base! I’d say it really depends on you and your needs when it comes to coverage.
How do I know my concealer shade?
So a general rule of thumb is that concealer is a shade or two light than your foundation shade. If you’re still not sure, you can go in-store and have someone test you for which concealer shade works best on you!
Should my concealer be lighter or darker?
Concealer should always be lighter than your skin tone, this is what results in that bright and flawless finish.
Can I wear concealer alone?
Of course! I do this most days, and cover any blemishes under my eyes and, works perfectly for me!
Is concealer necessary for makeup?
I would say when you’re doing a full coverage look, yes it should be used! The purpose of concealer is to brighten and conceal any blemishes too, so it would make a huge difference to the finish of your makeup!
Can I use concealer as a highlighter?
I actually saw people do this and I tried it out and I actually liked it! So all you have to do is apply some concealer where you’d apply highlighter and it results in such a bright finish I was really surprised! I’d say it really brightens your face but doesn’t work as a highlighter.
