What is Kajal?
Great question… what is kajal?!
Kajal is a black makeup product that is applied on the waterline! Kajal dates back to Ancient Egypt, and since then it’s become super popular around the world. It is most commonly used in areas around the world like India, the Middle East, Africa, Egypt, etc. Recently, it’s become popular on the internet, because of it’s bold and striking appearance and how it’s an alternative to eyeliner!
Kajal also goes by Kohl. It can also come in a form of a metal stick that has black pigment on it.
Today we are going to be using a pencil as it is easier for beginners and safer!
Have you used Kajal?
I’ve been wearing it since I was a baby actually! In Indian culture, it’s common to put Kajal on the baby’s waterline. It has actually become a staple for me (I never leave the house without it!) I love the bold, and unique look it gives my face as if all of the attention on my face goes directly to my eyes!
Which Kajal Should I Purchase?
I’ve tried quite a few of them and I can confidently say that the Loreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner is the best one hands down! It’s pigmented, doesn’t smear, lasts long, and looks soo pretty. I’ve tried other Kajals that “appear” black but once applied look greyish or like an unpigmented black. With this one, a few swipes and you’re ready to go! This product is inspired by Kajal, and safer for your eyes too.
Disclaimer
If you have sensitive eyes be careful! Make sure to test it, as it can irritate your eyes, and using a pencil like the one above will be safer but still give you the result of Kajal.
How do I use Kajal?
Now that you’ve learned what Kajal is… you’re going to learn how to use it!
- Grab your kajal, and make sure that it is sharpened. This is the first step to getting the best results from your Kajal. Kajal also is always going to be the last step of your eye makeup routine. So this is after eyeshadow, mascara, etc.
- Get close to a mirror (I find that the small little mirrors help a ton with this) and open your eye wide. Look closely at the mirror and carefully glide the pencil along your bottom waterline, back and forth. If you find your eye getting teary get a tissue and blink on it to remove the tears.
- When you’re done with your bottom waterline, move to the top one! I’ve found that looking up and gliding it across the waterline is your best bet. Gently move the pencil across your eye, until you are happy with the pigment given.
- I like to squint my eyes and glide the pencil along my inner corner when I am applying it there. I’ve found that it helps to get that area of my eye.
