Cream makeup is an amazing product, but everyone knows that it does not last long! This blog post will teach you exactly what to do to ensure long-wear cream makeup. Let’s get into it.
Primer
Primer is crucial not only for a flawless base but also for properly prepping your skin. It helps with filling in pores, fine lines, texture, etc. Next time, try applying some primer before applying any makeup and see how your base reacts to it!
Here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to primer:
- Wash your face: It’s important to wash your face so you can start off with fresh and clean skin.
- Moisturize: After washing your face make sure to moisturize. Let it sit on your skin for 5 minutes then you can go ahead and apply primer.

Application
You may not know this, but the way you apply cream makeup matters! If you think about it using a beauty blender will soak in the makeup. For best results use a makeup brush, you will get the most from your product.
If you find that you love the look a damp beauty blender gives gently go over it with a damp beauty blender once you have applied it with a brush.
Yes! Apply powder makeup over it.
This a great piece of advice to make cream makeup last longer! For example, once you’ve applied your cream blush apply some powder blush over it to lock it in. This is an “extra layer of security” for the blush.
You’ll notice that your cream blush lasts much longer compared to before doing this one trick. Pretty cool right?!
Light Layers
It’s important to apply cream makeup in light layers so it doesn’t become patchy or pill. Make sure to take your time evenly applying and not hastily applying all at once.
Setting powder
This is one of my favorite hacks for long-lasting cream makeup! Sweep some setting powder over your makeup once you’re done.
My two favorite setting powders:
Kosas Setting Powder: This is a great powder to use after foundation, or after you’re done with makeup.
Elf HD Powder: In one word, this powder is brightening, and a little goes a long way. Here is the link my blog post which goes more in-depth.
Setting spray
Setting spray is not only good for locking in your makeup but did you know it’s also a great way to prep for makeup?! Right before you apply your cream makeup, spray some setting spray.
Translucent powder on Eyes
I tried this and had to share it! If you wear cream eyeshadow but find that it doesn’t last long apply some translucent powder over it with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. The reason you want it to be translucent is that it won’t affect the color of the eyeshadow.
There you have it, that’s all you need to know about making cream makeup last long. Have you tried any of these tricks, if so what do you think? Subscribe to the Beginners Guide To Makeup to keep up with the latest on makeup for beginners!
