Summer is almost here, so today you’re going to learn an amazingly quick and easy summer makeup look! During the summer one of the most important things for me is that my makeup is both comfortable and looks good. I can’t stand the feeling of lots of makeup on my face when it’s hot! This summer makeup look is dewy, will last in the heat, and looks so pretty!
Video Tutorial
The written tutorial is below, but to get a better idea of the makeup look and how to do it I recommend watching this!
Skin Prep
Skin prep is so important! Especially during the summer setting a strong base is key to long-lasting makeup. Follow the steps below for a dewy base!
- Wash your face: It doesn’t matter which cleanser you use, as long as it works for your skin you’re good. Pat dry when done.
- Moisturize: During the summer it’s crucial to keep your skin hydrated. I LOVE the Elf Cosmetics Happy Hydration Facial Cream.
- SPF: I know it seems like a lot of steps, but SPF is the most essential thing on this list. This is because it’s summer, and important to keep your skin prepared for the sun! After you apply moisturizer follow with SPF. I have found Supergoops Sunscreen layers fantastically with makeup.
- Primer: This is not a necessary step but if you find yourself prone to makeup melting off your face it’s a good idea to look into primer. Learn more about primer and how to use it here!
Base
Having a heavy base when it’s hot is not fun! If you can opt for a lighter base, you’ll find that to be much more comfortable.
Elf Halo Glow
This is going to be my go-to form of coverage this summer! It’s extremely easy to use, looks lovely, and lasts long.
Apply this all over your face (go up a shade for a tan look!) and blend it with a foundation brush. For a seamless blend in a buffing motion. *Find that it looks good, but want more coverage? Mix it with some skin tint!*

Bronzer
If I could describe summer as one makeup product it’d be bronzer! During the summer it’s beneficial to have a warm, glowy bronze. I am so excited to share I know exactly the secret to do so!
Application Tool
This is key to a natural bronze, it doesn’t matter which bronzer you use. It all comes down to the tool you use to apply it.
Think about it like this, if you’re using a small precise bronzer brush to blend everything in do you think that’s going to look natural? Instead, use a larger fluffier brush. This way you can get a stunning natural bronze all over!
Also, using a bigger brush allows for mistakes that can be easily fixed, which is an important component for makeup beginners to have.
Bronzer Application
Now that I’ve gone over this part will be easy breezy! Grab your bronzer, my favorite bronzer right now is the Hourglass Bronzer. It’s so beautiful and worth every penny. If you’re looking for a great affordable bronzer look into the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. The formula is amazing, lasts long, and smells divine.
Grab your bronzer brush and just buff it on the outer parts of your face. Buffing is quickly going in a circular motion to achieve a natural bronze.
Blush
Blush is up next! During the summer sometimes a flush of color is all you need. I love to prioritize both cream and powder blushes during the summer. A mix of both is the secret to long-lasting makeup.
- Apply cream blush: apply on both cheeks and a little on your nose. Using a blush brush blend it in by stippling. Never drag cream blush, the brush will just pick it up!
- Apply Powder blush: After you’ve applied your cream blush lock it in with powder blush. Go over exactly where you applied the cream blush. It’s important to keep stippling!
Concealer
You’re probably thinking did you skip concealer?! No, I did not! For a bright and flawless finish, apply concealer after applying blush and bronzer.
I’ve found this looks amazing and I love how neat it looks. There is a clear separation between concealer, blush, and bronzer. It kinda looks gradient!
Apply concealer on the corner below your eye and blend with a foundation brush. *For a bright finish spread it with your ring finger and let it sit for a minute. After the minute is up, blend it!* If you find that you accidentally cover your blush that’s ok! Apply some more blush on top of it.
Powder
Powder is one of those things that’s super important to prioritize during the summer! The reason why is that it prevents oil and shine from coming through. I have found that translucent loose powders work the best to give me bright locked-in makeup. Elf Cosmetics HD Powder is the one I constantly go back to, it’s that good.
Grab the powder brush you usually use and instead of sweeping like you normally do, press the powder into your skin. You’ll find this way looks lovely and prevents oil and shine at a much greater level compared to sweeping it.
Apply on the following areas:
- Under your eyes
- Chin
- Around your nose
- Anywhere else you know gets oily
Eyes
During the summer it’s important to have eyes that look pretty but it’s not too much! For best results apply either a highlighter or Fenty Beauty’s How Many Carats?! This product is very mesmerizing and in a way, it looks like “glistening” water.
When you’re in the sun either looks stunning!
Mascara
It’s horrible when mascara melts off your face in the heat! To avoid this, use mascaras with light but volumizing formulas. My favorite one is the A’liver Long Curl Mascara!
Highlighter
Highlighter time! It’s up to you to choose where you apply this, but I always recommend the higher points of your face.
A super unique highlighter I love to use is by COVERGIRL and it is so pretty! The name is the COVERGIRL Clean Fresh Glow Stick, and when you apply it it’s cold. Isn’t that so cool?!
I always recommend using your fingers to blend in your cream highlighter, a brush doesn’t do justice. Gently pat your skin for best results.
Lips
During the summer gloss is ALWAYS the answer when it comes to lips! Apply either a lip tint with some gloss on top or lipstick. Doing this adds a little pop of color while still looking natural.
The reason why I love the lip tint option is that once a few hours have gone by your lips will still look good.
Lock It In
Almost done! Time to lock it ALL in using a dewy setting mist. This is the PERFECT way to get a dewy finish especially if you don’t have a lot of cream or liquid makeup and don’t want to break the bank for a dewy finish.
The Elf Cosmetics Dewy Coconut Setting Mist is SO good, I 100% recommend it. The scent is amazing and when you apply it the formula is cold which is perfect for rehydrating your skin during the summer.
There you have it! A dewy, glowing summer makeup that doesn’t weigh your skin down but still looks good. Thank you for reading and be sure to subscribe to the Beginners Guide To Makeup to keep up with the latest on makeup for beginners!
