Welcome to the Beginner’s Guide to Makeup! Autumn is officially here, which means it’s time to adjust our makeup routine for the changing season. I love the vibrant red leaves and cooler weather. By the end of this guide, you will know exactly how to adapt your makeup routine to this new season!
Makeup Base
I wanted to quickly remind you that as the seasons change, so might our foundation shades! If you find that it’s not matching as well, this is because you may not be as tan. Usually, you have to switch shades in the winter, but if you’re wondering why it’s not matching as well, this could explain why.
Additionally, you may have to switch to a hydrating base! Use a hydrating foundation to combat the cold weather.
Bronzer
When it comes to bronzer, utilize it during autumn! This is the perfect time to bring some warmth to your skin as well as compliment your makeup for the season.
I recommend the Huda Beauty Bronzer. It has a stunning shade that pairs perfectly with the blush mentioned below.
Blush
When it comes to blush, autumn is the PERFECT time to experiment with shades! Try using shades other than pink, switch to reds, berries, and mauves. For instance, the Milani Cheek Kiss Blush or the Rare Beauty Nearly Berry blush.
If you’re looking to switch up the formula, now is the perfect time to switch from powder to cream blush.
Eyeshadow
One reason why autumn makeup is so great is because you have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of eyeshadows. From browns to golds, and bronzes to oranges, it’s incredible how much you can play around with different shades.
To get more in-depth with the type of shades, let’s go over it! Use warmer and muted colors, such as browns, burgundies, and oranges.
- Browns
- Burgundies
- Oranges
- Rusts
- Mustards
- Golds
- Bronzes
- Deep plums
- Terracottas
If you’re looking for a great brand, I totally recommend Colourpop! The Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadows are so good and would make a great addition to any makeup look.
Eyeliner Wings + Mascara
Another simple but dramatic effect would be adding a different-colored eyeliner wing to your eyeshadow! Instead of black, use shades like burgundy and brown.
This is a subtle but perfect way to spice up your makeup for the season.
Additionally, you can use colored mascara. You can choose to do one or the other, or both. Colored mascara is a great way to subtly embrace autumn in your makeup routine.
Lips
This is probably one of my favorite parts – lips! During autumn, I highly encourage trying bold and dark lips using liners and lipstick. Additionally, you can spice up your lips by adding a shimmery finish.
If you don’t feel like doing a full base every day, do a natural makeup look and then add a bold lip to embrace the season.
Setting Spray
Last but certainly not least, apply some setting spray to ensure your makeup lasts all day in the cooler weather! Look for a soft matte/matte finish.
