Here’s the guide that’ll go over every single coverage option there is! Makeup beginners tend to have a hard time figuring out which coverage option looks and works best with their skin, so here’s the guide that’ll break it down!
Foundation
This is the most common type of coverage, foundation ranges from light to full coverage. When you see beauty gurus showing their makeup looks, the base is foundation! There are also different finishes foundation has, I’ll go over them now and break it down for you.
Dewy: If you like a glowing finish this is what gives you that, pretty natural looking too!
Suitable skin type: Dewy foundations are great for dry skin
Matte: Matte is when it’s not shiny or dewy, it’s the opposite! If you like finishes that are not glowing/shiny matte is for you.
Suitable skin type: Matte foundations are great for oily skin
Application-level: Medium – Difficult (depends on what kind of base you’re going for, for me it’s medium! Also depends on what product you’re using, I love the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, it’s super easy to apply and lasts long.)
Skin tints
Recently I’ve been really loving skin tints! It’s the perfect product for those looking for something that offers light to medium coverage while feeling like nothing is on your skin. I recommend Bare Essentials, I have the SPF skin tint and love it!
Suitable skin type: Skin tint is great for any skin type
Application-level: Easy: Skin tint is my favorite coverage product, incredibly easy to apply, lasts long, and gives light to medium coverage!
BB cream
BB Cream is up next, it stands for beauty balm by the way! BB cream is for those who love no-makeup makeup looks. It’s a quick coverage product you can use to cover minor blemishes, while still looking like your skin. The finish you get looks like your skin but energized and glowing!
Suitable skin type: BB creams are great for any skin type
Application-level: BB cream is also really easy to use and apply!
Concealer
I actually recommend this and use concealer when I don’t want to do a whole face this is just the perfect quick and easy solution. To do this apply on blemishes and blend in, after you can continue with your normal makeup routine.
Suitable skin type: Concealer is great for any skin type!
Application Level: Easy: If you’re going for a minimal look, concealer is all you really need!
Powder Foundation
This is an option for those who want a mattified finish and medium coverage! My mother actually has been using powder foundation forever and really likes it. Powder foundation helps with giving your skin an airbrushed appearance. Another thing powder foundation can do is be layered on top of a liquid foundation, and work as a setter for the makeup.
Suitable skin type: Powder foundations are great for oily skin
Application Level: Medium: Some find powder foundation difficult to use because it ends up looking cakey. My mom uses Bare Minerals and it’s really easy to use, all she does is glide the brush across her face and it looks nice, and even! I’ve never personally used powder foundation but wanted to add that!
Tinted SPF
This is a great option because it’s a skincare necessity to wear sunscreen every day so you’re kinda hitting two birds with one stone! It’s also a great option because it’s not going to give you that white tint after applying it too. This is also a great option for those who want to feel like nothing is on your skin, but still, want light to medium coverage.
Suitable skin type: Tinted SPF works well with any skin type, but those with acne-prone skin should make sure the tinted sunscreen is non-comedogenic!
Application Level: Easy To Medium: These are super similar to skin tints, and are very easy to apply in my opinion!
