Why Is Prepping Your Skin For Makeup Important?
Skin prep is important because… you’ve gotta take care of your skin! It’s no secret, but in order to have a good base for your makeup, you must take care of your skin. When I first started doing makeup I would apply makeup with no prep or anything and would just go for it! As fun as it sounds, for best results make sure to prep your skin.
Washing your face before doing your makeup will make your makeup last longer! Your skin has buildup, dirt, oils, etc., and when you apply makeup over that it can cause makeup to separate and look bad. Washing your face also makes makeup look more fresh and radiant on you!
What does skin prep entail?!
Skin prep entails your normal skincare routine, let’s go through exactly what that is! The main goal of skin prep is to have a moisturized finish so makeup is applied smoothly and looks even.
Wash your face
I like to use a gentle cleanser but whatever you normally use works! Gently pat your skin dry, and apply moisturizer. It’s important to apply moisturizer so your skin doesn’t appear dry. After, apply Sunscreen, so you can keep your skin protected when you’re out! You can also find moisturizers that have SPF in them if you want to shorten your routine.
Exfoliation
Do this only once a week, but exfoliation is one of the most popular hacks for flawless, glowing, and radiant skin! I swear, my skin looks so radiant and bright that my makeup looks amazing. Exfoliation is going to remove dead skin cells, gunk, and more from your skin resulting in a radiant glow.
After you wash your face you can do this! I recommend exfoliating the night before you do a full face because it can be aggravating for your skin after exfoliating to put a whole face of makeup on! I love Acure Face Scrubs, I’ve been using them for 4 years and have never tried another brand, I highly recommend them.
Be careful if you have sensitive skin, and make sure to do a patch test before using it on your whole face. If you’re still worried because you have sensitive skin or acne, consult your dermatologist to see what they say about it!
Prepping Your Lips
As interesting as this sounds prepping your lips for makeup is actually a thing! Apply chapstick before applying lipstick/gloss for a smooth and easy application.
Primer
Prime-time! Don’t know what primer is? Primer makes makeup stick your skin to last longer. It also makes makeup appear smoother, who doesn’t love that?! I personally love using either primer or rosewater! I love using Heritage Store Rosewater before applying my makeup, gives my skin such a refreshing and radiant glow. Both make my makeup looks good and last long.
If you want a long-lasting finish definitely go for primer, if you’re just going to be running errands or around the house check out rosewater! Want a dewy finish? Rosewater can help with that!

You’re Ready!
Now that you’re all ready it’s time to apply foundation! You’ll notice that your makeup looks a lot more radiant and lasts longer, overall you’ll just feel cleanser too when you’re applying your makeup!
